Advancing Government Performance
The Center on Municipal Government Performance (CMGP) of the National Center for Civic Innovation, the national affiliate of the Fund for the City of New York, was established in 1995 to determine if and how the public assesses government performance and city conditions, ascertain if their measures are different from what government and related organizations use to measure and report on their own performance, and if so to create some new measures that reflect the public’s perspective, and then to spread the word about the significance of our findings. In doing this work, the Center aims to interest government in aligning its performance with the public’s point of view, provide data that government and the public can trust, encourage constructive communication between government and the public, and improve government performance.
CMGP's Government Performance Programs:
Listening to the Public: Conducting focus group research to develop performance measures
ComNET (Computerized Neighborhood Environment Tracking): Creating performance assesments that cut across agency lines
Street Smoothness: Creating performance measures that reflect the public's point of view
CitizenGauge: Measuring customer service in the public sector
New Book - “Listening to the Public: Adding the Voice of the People to Government Performance Measurement and Reporting”
The Center on Municipal Government Performance has been supported by grants from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
